Book Excerpt :

A powerful memoir of a true Australian legend: stolen child, musical and lyrical genius, and leader. Not many have lived as many lives as Archie Roach – stolen child, seeker, teenage alcoholic, lover, father, musical and lyrical genius, and leader – but it took him almost a lifetime to find out who he really was. Roach was only two years old when he was forcibly removed from his family. Brought up by a series of foster parents until his early teens, his world imploded when he received a letter that spoke of a life he had no memory of. In this intimate, moving and often shocking memoir, Archie’s story is an extraordinary odyssey through love and heartbreak, family and community, survival and renewal – and the healing power of music. Overcoming enormous odds to find his story and his people, Archie voices the joy, pain and hope he found on his path through song to become the legendary singer-songwriter and storyteller that he is today – beloved by fans worldwide. Tell Me Why is a stunning account of resilience and the strength of spirit – and of a great love story. Book Short Summary:

An immigrant mother’s long-held secrets upend her daughter’s understanding of her family, her identity, and her place in the world in this powerful and dramatic memoir “Riveting. . . . [Wong] tells her story in vivid conversational prose that will make readers feel they’re listening to a master storyteller on a long car trip. . . . Hers is a hero’s journey.”—The New York Times Book Review My mother carried a powerful secret. A secret that shaped my life and the lives of everyone around me in ways she could not have imagined. Carmen Rita Wong has always craved a sense of belonging: First as a toddler in a warm room full of Black and brown Latina women, like her mother, Lupe, cheering her dancing during her childhood in Harlem. And in Chinatown, where her immigrant father, “Papi” Wong, a hustler, would show her and her older brother off in opulent restaurants decorated in red and gold. Then came the almost exclusively white playgrounds of New Hampshire after her mother married her stepfather, Marty, who seemed to be the ideal of the white American dad. As Carmen entered this new world with her new family—Lupe and Marty quickly had four more children—her relationship with her mother became fraught with tension, suspicion, and conflict, explained only years later by the secrets her mother had kept for so long. And when those secrets were revealed, bringing clarity to so much of Carmen’s life, it was too late for answers. When her mother passed away, Carmen wanted to shake her soul by its shoulders and demand: Why didn’t you tell me? A former national television host, advice columnist, and professor, Carmen searches to understand who she really is as she discovers her mother’s hidden history, facing the revelations that seep out. Why Didn’t You Tell Me? is a riveting and poignant story of Carmen’s experience of race and culture in America and how they shape who we think we are.

Book Short Summary:

THE NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER WINNER of the 2021 Financial Times & McKinsey Business Book of the Year Award “Part John le Carré and more parts Michael Crichton . . . spellbinding.” The New Yorker "Written in the hot, propulsive prose of a spy thriller" (The New York Times), the untold story of the cyberweapons market-the most secretive, government-backed market on earth-and a terrifying first look at a new kind of global warfare. Zero day: a software bug that allows a hacker to break into your devices and move around undetected. One of the most coveted tools in a spy's arsenal, a zero day has the power to silently spy on your iPhone, dismantle the safety controls at a chemical plant, alter an election, and shut down the electric grid (just ask Ukraine). For decades, under cover of classification levels and non-disclosure agreements, the United States government became the world's dominant hoarder of zero days. U.S. government agents paid top dollar-first thousands, and later millions of dollars- to hackers willing to sell their lock-picking code and their silence. Then the United States lost control of its hoard and the market. Now those zero days are in the hands of hostile nations and mercenaries who do not care if your vote goes missing, your clean water is contaminated, or our nuclear plants melt down. Filled with spies, hackers, arms dealers, and a few unsung heroes, written like a thriller and a reference, This Is How They Tell Me the World Ends is an astonishing feat of journalism. Based on years of reporting and hundreds of interviews, The New York Times reporter Nicole Perlroth lifts the curtain on a market in shadow, revealing the urgent threat faced by us all if we cannot bring the global cyber arms race to heel.

Any reasonable summary of this book's plot would give away too much of the mystery it describes, so suffice it to say that it is a definite 'page-turner.' Right from the first chapter, when we learn about the mysterious recently-turned-millionaire Fenwick being strangely horrified by what he sees in a small silver box he finds on his dinner-table, we learn that he may not be what he appears to be, and that his lovely daughter may have a mysterious past of her own. Book Short Summary:

Life’s Journey through the Bumps is a spiritual and inspirational journey that the author has shared with hope that it helps others traveling that long journey that loss creates. “Loss is a brokenness that only those that have suffered a loss can relate to. It is a long journey on a winding road with bumps and turns.” Expressing grief through poetry has been her therapeutic way to help herself but also to reach out to others online and within the community. One can relate to the stages of grief and loss that she has encountered and how she dealt with those situations. Life is like a winding road with no end in sight and many bumps along the way. May you find strength in your journey and find peace in your heart. “Life is full of challenges that we alone must face. Times when we will struggle to wake to face the day. Times that faith and courage is tested, our pain to erase. Times we must accept the bumps will go away. We can’t change the tragic events that occurred in our past, What happened was not our doing, nor our ability to be undone. We can only face life strongly and not let depression last. Help is available as you are not alone, reach out to someone.”.... (excerpt from “Just Around the Bend”)

Book Short Summary:

Scott and Kelly are a couple of average, every day people, hard working, kind and decent. Then one night they receive a mysterious phone call informing them that they've just won a lottery they didn't know they were playing. It is an offer that no one could refuse, an offer that promises to fulfil all of their worldly dreams. It is only after that they realize nothing comes for free, and what they've won is nothing compared to what they might lose. And by then it might be too late. About the Author: I was born in Regina, Saskatchewan, and currently reside in Lethbridge, Alberta. I have a B.A. in English from the University of Lethbridge. This is my first published work.

Book Short Summary:

This is a book of all of my poems about my life, feelings, thoughts, emotions, beliefs, values, and morals. Most poems are about me, people I know, relationships I have been in, experiences I have had, and some that are made up and have nothing to do with me personally and were inspired by a poetry site. I love to write poetry and have wanted to publish my poems for a long time. I hope to publish them and to write and publish more. I also hope that people will enjoy my poems, be able to relate to them, and will get something good out of them. I want to give people a positive experience the same way that I feel positive about writing them. I would be happy if my poems helped anyone since I love to help people. I also would be excited if I made any money from the exposure. Thank you for reading.

Book Short Summary:

This book is one of my mother’s inspiration, she named me Dwight after a journalist who used to visit the home with one of my uncle. So I discovered my gift for writing and penmanship from about 5 yrs old . This book is a combination of some very first writings and some very new ones . I tried to basically touch on all faucets of life , so came about the title :glimpses through time . As humans we evolve , it’s never constant, life is like a bicycle , you pedal and you learn to balance in order to pivot or propel, so as to attain. My hope is to stimulate and to engender an awakening of the expression within all of us.

Book Short Summary:

Raised in the Delta by her grandmother, Parris McKay has the voice of an angel and the promise of a bright, loving future with the man she adores. But everything Parris believes about her life is rocked to the core when she discovers that Emma, the mother she believed dead, is very much alive. Compelled to discover the roots of this decades-long deception, Parris goes in search of her mother in France, but the meeting only opens old wounds for them both. Hurt and disillusioned, Parris finds solace in two new friends, Leslie and Celeste. Both have difficult relationships with their own mothers, and both, like Parris, are coming to terms with a legacy of long-buried secrets. And as Emma returns to the States, spurring unexpected revelations, the bond that Parris, Leslie and Celeste forge will sustain them on a journey from heartbreak to healing. Compelling, candid and wise, What Mother Never Told Me is an unforgettable story about the power of our pasts to define us—and sometimes to hold us back. It is a novel about abiding love and hidden truths, about family bonds that may be tested but never truly broken, about the lies that tear us apart—and the friendships that can make us whole again.
