The Bhagawan Uvacha series brings to devotees the world over, a compilation of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba's teachings in the form of quotations, skilfully compiled and woven together by Shri. N. S. Venkatesh, the compiler. In this book in the series, My Beloved Ones, Shri. Venkatesh says, "This book is a tribute to the love of Bhagawan for His devotees. Time and again, He has assured us of His constant presence by our side. His words provide sweet succour to the lonely or distressed heart that wants to feel Him each minute. 'Swami is always with us, in us, around us.' His words offer hope, solace, and comfort during times of need. Why should we fear? He is always with us. That is what each word in this book echoes. To deserve Him, we must only need Him. Listen to Bhagawan as He speaks of this beautiful relationship. These are words, which are especially for you..."

Book Short Summary:

“Father, They Know Not What They Do” is written in two parts. Book one titled, “Father They Know Not What They Do” consists of a spiritual dialogue between The Holy Trinity, repentant spirits, and Barbara (the author). Book two, titled “The Injured Ones” is somewhat of the author’s biography; and connection with The Lord and His children. This is a very moving book. It contains a very intimate relationship between God and His Creation. “The Injured Ones” are, The Lord, the Author, and the Beloved one. BARBARA SPEAKING TO GOD, THE FATHER-PAGE 108 They have captured the soul of the injured one. They have taken me away from my home, my Spouse. They have accused me falsely, as they accused Your Only Begotten Son, JESUS. They have stripped me from my dignity, my God. I have shared the act of humiliation with my Lord and Savior. I have shared the agony of His chains. I have shared the mockery that was placed on Your Obedient ones (JESUS and Barbara). O Father of the injured and suffering Ones, I have walked the lonely Road with my Lord, JESUS. I have been arrested and falsely accused by Our beloved one. My soul is weak, my Lord. My body is in pain, my God. I have suffered from the wounds that were inflicted on my soul, by Our beloved one. Rescue my bruised soul, my Lord. Relieve me from the pain of loving my accuser, my Spouse. Relieve from the agony that accompanies my expression of love. I am in pain, my Lord. My spirit cries out for relief. Will You send Your Messenger of relief, my God?

Book Short Summary:

While the Prophet was returning from his last pilgrimage to Medina, he received this revelation from Allah,at a place called Ghadir Khumm, commanding the Prophet to read it to the people. "O Prophet proclaim what has been revealed to you from your Lord, for if you do it not, you have not conveyed His message, and Allah will protect you from the (evil designs of) people," Surah Al Maida Chapter 5 V 67. Immediately following the passing of the Prophet (SAW), his Sahabat, and his fathers in law, turned against Ali. The home of Fatima, daughter of the Prophet was burned down by the Sahabat, despite several narrations from the Prophet about Fatima, one of which is who ever upset Fatima, upset me and who ever upset me upset Allah. This book gives you summarized Ahadiths from Sunnis and Shias determining the Caliphate. It shows why the Caliphate belongs to Ali,and his descendants using Sunni Ahadiths to prove so. This book differentiates between the beliefs of the Shias and the Sunnis, and uses verses from the Holy Quran and from several Ahadith books.

Book Short Summary:

Combining rich documentation selected from the five-volume series on Jewish Responses to Persecution, this text combines a carefully curated selection of primary sources together with basic background information to illuminate key aspects of Jewish life during the Holocaust. Many available for the first time in English translation, these letters, reports, and testimonies, as well as photographs and other visual documents, provide an array of first-hand contemporaneous accounts by victims. With its focus on highlighting the diversity of Jewish experiences, perceptions and actions, the book calls into question prevailing perceptions of Jews as a homogenous, faceless, or passive group and helps complicate students’ understanding of the Holocaust. While no source reader can comprehensively cover this vast subject, this volume addresses key aspects of victim experiences in terms of gender, age, location, chronology, and social and political background. Selected from vast archival collections by a team of expert scholars, this book provides a wealth of material for discussion, reflection, and further study on issues of mass atrocities in their historical and current manifestations. The book’s cover photograph depicts the 1942 wedding of Salomon Schrijver and Flora Mendels in the Jewish quarter of Amsterdam. Salomon and Flora Schrijver were deported via Westerbork to Sobibor where they were murdered on July 9, 1943. USHMMPA (courtesy of Samuel Schryver).

Book Short Summary:

There is a rich vein of writing within Anglican tradition that has helped to form the theology and spirituality of the contemporary church. For many readers, much of this material remains unfamiliar and is often difficult to access. Love's Redeeming Work draws together the works of major writers from the sixteenth century to the present day who have contributed to this development. Each selected writer is introduced with a brief biography, which gives background information about the author, and highlights the relationships that existed with others from the same period. This will enable the reader to set the writings in their proper context, enhancing understanding of the material. The selections then follow. In some instances these may be familiar, but other examples will introduce fresh ideas for every reader. Each writer's selection is concluded with a list of source texts, which can encourage readers to explore in more depth those areas which intrigue and excite them. Love's Redeeming Work traces a path that has enabled Anglicanism in particular, and the wider church as well, to develop an ever-deepening awareness of the need for a spiritual depth in the Christian life informed by a better knowledge of tradition. In exploring this material, it is the compilers' hope that readers will find new riches that will encourage and sustain their own quest for holiness.

Book Short Summary:

This book illustrates the new character that we take on (who we become, and who we unbecome) as we traverse the transitional journey from rebirth into life eternal. When we are called by God into adoption, and we make the decision to give our heart and life to Him, we immediately become the sons and daughters of God. He begins to teach us who we are, and exactly what that means. He lays out the journey ahead, and He goes before us. He equips us, trains us, and educates us in spiritual things. He graces our heart with His divine influence and prunes us into a perfect fruit. He makes in us the change necessary for us to receive the promises given us at our rebirth. He calls us into intimate relationship with Him, that we may know Him, and glorify Him through our life. He teaches us the various roles that we take during this journey. He instructs us, molds us, and embraces us.

Book Short Summary:

In 1938 when Hitler annexed Austria making it part of his Greater German Reich, approximately 185,000 Jews lived in Vienna. Unlike their counterparts in Germany proper, these Jews had only a short time to make plans to emigrate. The development and application of racially discriminatory policies in Germany took nearly five years to come to full fruition. In Austria, the ruthless attempts at exclusion of the Jewish population from both social and economic institutions took barely five months. The editor and his parents were among the few individuals who were fortunate to gain entrance into the United States during this time of crisis. Four days before their departure, the U.S. visa stamped in their passports was the only thing that saved the three from deportation to Poland. The Sechers unavoidably left behind five members of their immediate family who were still waiting to receive visas, but they firmly believed, even as rumors of further restrictive policies against the Jews circulated, that the remaining members of their family would be well out of reach of Nazi policies designed to remove Jews from their homes. There is a lengthy introduction, but the major part of the book is a chronological arrangement of the many letters exchanged between the father and mother and those individuals left behind in Vienna. The letters tell a story of the struggles the remaining five faced in their efforts to stay alive. Of the five persons who contributed to this correspondence, only Fanny Secher (the author's paternal grandmother) died a natural death. The others were deported and never heard from again.

Book Short Summary:

Bart Ehrman--the New York Times bestselling author of Misquoting Jesus and a recognized authority on the early Christian Church--and Zlatko Plese here offer a groundbreaking, multi-lingual edition of the Apocryphal Gospels, one that breathes new life into the non-canonical texts that were once nearly lost to history. In The Apocryphal Gospels, Ehrman and Plese present a rare compilation of over 40 ancient gospel texts and textual fragments that do not appear in the New Testament. This essential collection contains Gospels describing Jesus's infancy, ministry, Passion, and resurrection, as well as the most controversial manuscript discoveries of modern times, including the most significant Gospel discovered in the 20th century--the Gospel of Thomas--and the most recently discovered Gospel, the Gospel of Judas Iscariot. For the first time ever, these sacred manuscripts are featured in the original Greek, Latin, and Coptic languages, accompanied by fresh English translations that appear next to the original texts, allowing for easy line by line comparison. Also, each translation begins with a thoughtful examination of key historical, literary, and textual issues that places each Gospel in its proper context. The end result is a resource that enables anyone interested in Christianity or the early Church to understand--better than ever before--the deeper meanings of these apocryphal Gospels. The Apocryphal Gospels is much more than an annotated guide to the Gospels. Through its authoritative use of both native text and engaging, accurate translations, it provides an unprecedented look at early Christianity and the New Testament. This is an indispensable volume for any reader interested in church history, antiquity, ancient languages, or the Christian faith.

Book Short Summary:

Stories that cover a range of genres are presented. With special emphasis on suspense and terror, a roller coaster of emotions that go from sci-fi to fantasy, from love to heartbreak, from betrayal to espionage, and more, that I hope catch your eye and brew your imagination and creative capacity. Some of the stories are about nightmares (or dreams) told in a page or less, in other cases the stories extend to a second or even third page, and finally, there are stories that were merely created by the author of this book. It’s not my intention that, perhaps, more than one of the readers will appropriate the feelings or events conveyed in these stories. Much less is it my intention, in the case you’ve had a nightmare (or a dream) or a similar event, to expose or harm you. I initially considered the title Poems of terror told in a page (or less), but the content of this work may not fully adjust or adapt to the term poem, in the sense of rhythm and other literary resources that they require. Without further ado, I present to you “Short stories told in one page or less”.

Book Short Summary:

Hell’s Retribution: Lucifer Unbound book 1 0f 3 for adults is an epic fantasy novel, a story of Lucifer who battles heaven’s celestials and loses the war. As we all know, he ends up in hell, but he also becomes god of the earth. Interfering in the lives of those on earth, beginning with The Garden, when things don't work out, retribution seems to be Lucifer’s answer, at least until he kidnaps an angel, and take her to his private chambers in hell. Intent on seduction in an act of revenge against a certain someone, but what happens when Lucifer is seduced by his own schemes? So, journey through the universe, from the beginning of time as we know it, from the heavens to the The Garden on earth, and outward to the stars and, of course, lest we forget, even down into hell. Herein you will meet a host of interesting and sometimes aggravating characters who include the Fae and the Fallen (angels), Lucifer and Adonai, the Nephilim, and a human soul or two along with a dragon, once one of the heavenly cherubs. I left emergency room nursing and became a mental health counselor for over twenty-two before becoming a writer. Seeing many persons who felt their lives were hopeless and unredeemable, I wondered what would happen if the worst bad-boy of all could be redeemed? What would it take? This is how the story of Lucifer, Light-bringer came to be an epic adventure involving both humans and celestials, on the earth and in the heavens where, unlike some Lucifer stories, Adonai is still the good-guy even though there are a few sensual scenes more real to life than the average 'religious' type novel. This book is not recommended for young children due to certain scenes recommended only for those over 18. _____________ Hell’s Retribution: Lucifer Unbound, book 1 of 3 by Brandy Marks Reviewed by Jamie Michele of Readers Favorites. February 2021 This is a fantasy novel, the first in Marks' trilogy places its narrative at the launching point: the Old Testament of the Bible. Lucifer was created by God, Adonai Elohim, as the universe is brought to life. Underwhelmed by his station and with his ambition for something greater, he lures the first humans into deceit, cementing their fate alongside his own. Without the constraints of Heaven's rules, he and his cohorts tempt and entice women into sin. From this, a new race is created. One in particular, Anak, is the son of a fallen angel and a fallen woman. He grows up as a devotee of Adonai though his movements on earth are under constant attack. Nevertheless, he remains true, working to convert those who stray, performing rescues in both words and combat. As Anak's successes rise, Lucifer's falter, losing what shred of care he has left in his own war for retribution, at least until near the end when the devil himself does the unimaginable, some say the impossible. Brandy Marks weaves a fantastic tale of an earth inhabited by humans, Fae, demons, angels, dragons, and all manner of fantasy creatures in Hell’s Retribution: Lucifer Unbound series. The imagery is exceptional, opening up a world never before seen with a vast landscape and many characters whose development grows through shifting points of view. The writing is, for the most part, tight and clean. The dialogue transitions between very modern back to “biblical speak” sometimes with the same characters, but in the context of the story, its fantasy, at a time that is neither here nor there, it actually works. Marks shines when she is piercing the heart with corruption and lust; a flick of the tongue or a breath to the ear, it's no wonder so few are able to resist—and she is able to effectively instill a message about the eternal war between good and evil, light and dark, and the frailty of man. The book lends space in its back matter for Marks to connect the dots between scripture and script, a nice touch that showed how much thought went into the writing of this novel. My hope is others will be able to enjoy it as much as I have.

Book Short Summary:

This story is predicated upon the little known fact that any male who has been baptized as a Christian is eligible to become Pope. The Catholic Church usually requires that he also be confirmed. This, however, is not the real impediment as such a thing is most unlikely to happen, on the face of it. Unless, of course, if as the Church proclaims the Holy Ghost actually exists. St. Malachy, an Irish mystic, created a remarkably accurate list of Popes from his day in the 1300s to beyond our present time. According to this list there are to be two more Popes; a short reign and then the last Pope. What would the world be like if the Holy Ghost did interfere in the election of the last Pope. That does indeed present us with many interesting possibilities. This book is in eight parts, starting with: THE END OF DAYS: The story opens in the late spring of 2007 with a conclave to elect a successor to the second-last Pope. For a number of months it has been deadlocked, when a series of dreams introduce a name that eventually is voted as the next Pope. A search finds the possessor of that name and a birthmark on his neck that will make him Pope. THE COMING: We go back to Ireland in 1896 where one of the O'Shey twins is murdered in a most gruesome manner. The other runs off to Canada. He marries a young woman he meets in a most unusual manner on the ship. They have a family and we follow their son patrick (Paddy) O'Shey who has a very eventful life as a professional baseball player and war hero, and despite his feeling of failure his son becomes the new Pope. WAR: Concerns the exploits of Paddy O'Shey while in France in 1940. JOURNEY TO NOW: Here we follow the quiet life of our hero, James Michael O'Shey, from birth until he is most unexpectedly picked to be Pope. With a stop to cover the exploits of his father in the Far East during the war against the Japanese. FROM PERDITION TO PERIL: Back to Ireland in 1896 where the murdered of the O'Shey twin, one Jack Cassidy,, runs away in great remorse for the obscenity he has committed. He goes to England and to the astonishment of even himself, becomes a Catholic, a lawyer, a General serving in WWI and long time member of parliament. his son, Aaron, who lives a quiet life, has a son he names for his father; James Winston Cassidy becomes the Cardinal Archbishop of Westminster and the antagonist to the new Pope. He is one of the ones who tries to kill Michael. IN THE BEGINNING: This section follows Michael as he accepts the charge to be Pope. He introduces a new theology into the Church, dissolves the College of Cardinals and calls an Ecumenical Council. He fires every bishop and most of the workers in the Curia and replaces them temporarily until the council can decide on the future structure of the Church. He replaces over a thousand Bishops with men who are not wedded to the fear based past. END OF THE BEGINNING: Here we follow Michael as he meets the world and introduces his new theology, travels to Canada, the United States and the UN, survives a number of attempts on his life, and generally puts his house in order. He introduces the universal Catholic Church and meets the resistance from the frightened ones with alacrity and forceful theological dexterity. However, a supposed miracle put a bit of a damper on his enthusiasm. THE END OF THE BEGINNING: Michael sets forth the criteria for the Council. When all seems to be going as expected he is faced with a double attempt to kill him. With this negative adventure, and a metaphysical juxtaposition, the fate of the Universal Catholic Church is put on hold while the readers make up their minds as to the desirability of the message that Michael preaches.

Book Short Summary:

As the wife of a frequently absent slaveholder and public figure, Anna Matilda Page King (1798-1859) was the de facto head of their Sea Island plantation. This volume collects more than 150 letters to her husband, children, parents, and others. Conveying the substance of everyday life as they chronicle King's ongoing struggles to put food on the table, nurse her "family black and white," and keep faith with a disappointing husband, the letters offer an absorbing firsthand account of antebellum coastal Georgia life. Anna Matilda Page was reared with the expectation that she would marry a planter, have children, and tend to her family's domestic affairs. Untypically, she was also schooled by her father in all aspects of plantation management, from seed cultivation to building construction. That grounding would serve her well. By 1842 her husband's properties were seized, owing to debts amassed from crop failures, economic downturns, and extensive investments in land, enslaved workers, and the development of the nearby port town of Brunswick. Anna and her family were sustained, however, by Retreat, the St. Simons Island property left to her in trust by her father. With the labor of fifty bondpeople and "their increase" she was to strive, with little aid from her husband, to keep the plantation solvent. A valuable record of King's many roles, from accountant to mother, from doctor to horticulturist, the letters also reveal much about her relationship with, and attitudes toward, her enslaved workers. Historians have yet to fully understand the lives of plantation mistresses left on their own by husbands pursuing political and other professional careers. Anna Matilda Page King's letters give us insight into one such woman who reluctantly entered, but nonetheless excelled in, the male domains of business and agriculture.

Book Short Summary:

Renowned mystery author Arthur Conan Doyle and famous illusionist Harry Houdini first met in 1920, during the magician's tour of England. At the time, Conan Doyle had given up his lucrative writing career, killing off Sherlock Holmes in the process, in order to concentrate on his increasingly manic interest in Spiritualism. Houdini, who regularly conducted séances in an attempt to reach his late mother, was also infatuated with the idea of what he called a "living afterlife," though his enthusiasm came to be tempered by his ability to expose fraudulent mediums, many of whom employed crude variations of his own well-known illusions. Using previously unpublished material on the murky relationship between Houdini and Conan Doyle, this sometimes macabre, sometimes comic tale tells the fascinating story of the relationship between two of the most loved figures of the 20th century and their pursuit of magic and lost loved ones.

Book Short Summary:

Whispering Hope – His Saving Grace: A Book of Inspirational and Spiritual Poetry offers a wonderful healing collection of inspiring and spiritual poems written by Elizabeth Ann Marks. The author was inspired to write this book to help spread the love of God to others. Though she has been writing poetry since the age of ten, after joining a charismatic renewal prayer group, her gift for writing has become spiritual. She was inspired to write for God after being baptized in the Holy Spirit. These poems are elegant and moving. Some are informational about God’s intentions for us, His love for us, and some are prayers written from the heart, both praising God and asking for special blessings as well as thanking Him for the blessings He has already bestowed on us. There are special prayers that ask God for healing for others. These prayers have been answered in a very positive way. She says, “Many people have already been inspired by these writings. Some have claimed healing during my reading of certain of these poems at the prayer group. Some have been brought to tears, and still others have told me they hear the words spoken by Christ and not by me.”

Book Short Summary:

Modern biblical scholarship interprets the Song as a collection of love lyrics. For Edmée Kingsmill, on the contrary, the essence of the Song is mystical. A principal concern of this study, however, is to uncover the relationship between the 117 verses of the Song and those biblical books to which they point. Beneath the metaphors a network of allusions is being woven, conveying a picture opposite to that we find in the prophets who, confronted with the continual 'adultery' of Israel, poured forth their condemnations with unwearying passion. In dramatic contrast, the Song presents a paradisal picture: 'For, lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone. The flowers appear in the land, and the time of singing is come' (Song 2: 11-12). Thus, in presenting the ideal, the intention of the Song's author is shown to be encouragement. The inclusion of this poem in the biblical canon is understood, therefore, to be central to the purpose of the biblical literature: to bring all people to love the God of love. The book is in two parts. The first and longer part is concerned with themes, including the relationship of the Song to the early Jewish mystical literature. The second part is a short commentary intended for the reader interested in the text as much as in the related questions to which the text gives rise.

I recommend it unreservedly to all serious students of the Old Testament." -- John Bright "Wildberger's commentary has turned out to be his Lebenswerk, and it is itself a noble tribute to a scholar who is theologically sensitive, aware of differing opinions, and fair in dealing with them. It is the best existing commentary on the book of Isaiah." -- Roland E. Murphy
