Book Short Summary:

Heaven. Eternity. The Afterlife. When you mention any of these concepts, people of all ages and from all walks of life are certain to have opinions. How can we know for sure what heaven will be like? According to New Testament scholar and popular author Scot McKnight, all we need to do is turn to Scripture to answer our questions. McKnight helps you examine God’s Word in order to discover what awaits you on the other side of the grave and find answers to the most frequently asked questions regarding heaven, including: 1. What about Near Death Experiences? 2. What about Rewards in Heaven? 3. Who Will Be in Heaven? 4. Is God Fair? 5. Will There Be Families in Heaven? 6. What about Children Who Die? 7. What about Cremation? 8. What about Purgatory? 9. Will There Be Pets in Heaven? 10. Why Believe in Heaven? Heaven isn’t the construction of a fairy tale or some mystical narrative. It’s very real; it’s very good; and it’s very much the fulfillment of God’s promise to you.

Book Short Summary:

This book explores the contemporary practice of Neo-shamanism and its relationship to mental health. Chapters cover the practice of Neo-shamanism, how it differs from traditional shamanism, the technology of the shamanic journey, the lifeworlds of some of its practitioners, as well as its benefits and pitfalls. The author’s analysis draws on an in-depth study of existing literature, original qualitative-phenomenological research into the lifeworlds of practitioners, and nearly three decades of observation and experience as a student, teacher and practitioner of Neo-shamanism. She discusses the potential role of Neo-shamanic journey technology as an approach for psychology-based studies of consciousness and anomalous phenomena; its value as a tool for self-exploration as part of a supervised curriculum; as well as the possible therapeutic applications of the journey and shamanic healing protocols for use by mental health professionals. This book is a rich and timely resource for students and teachers of psychology, anthropology and sociology, psychotherapists, and anyone who is interested in consciousness and parapsychology.

Book Short Summary:

"Knowing how to love is never a thing acquired once and for all. We must begin anew every day. We must practice it.... We have to learn the art of loving every day." — Pope Francis, Regina Coeli, May 21, 2017 When Jorge Bergoglio was a young Jesuit, he wrote a statement of his personal beliefs. It began, “I want to believe in God the Father who loves me like a child, and in Jesus, the Lord who infused my life with His Spirit, to make me smile and so carry me to the eternal Kingdom of life.” The elements of this credo inspired the selection and arrangement of the reflections gathered here: Pope Francis’s thoughts on love for God and each other, and most importantly God’s love for us. Here are his most intimate thoughts about the purpose and promise of love, “the greatest power for the transformation of reality.” Whether you are at the beginning, middle, or end of your spiritual journey, may Pope Francis’s words open your eyes to true love: the kind of love that will never end.

Book Short Summary:

My name is Craig Thomas Harrison, I am living proof there is a God. I have received not one, but several miracles from heaven. I first thought it was all through luck and coincidence. That was until Jesus Christ manifested His glorious supernatural force about a week after the 27th of February 2011, when I had my last alcoholic drink. The day He stepped into my life, I crashed to my knees in awe of his magnificent presence and entity... I confessed my love to the Lord of all lords, a love that is stronger than that I give to my parents and asked Him to forgive me of my sins. He has blessed me with the mind and spirit of Christ. He has healed me of alcoholism, the occasional hard drug use, smoking, manic depression and obsessive compulsive disorder, lust and fear other than for Him. He has given me my life back abundantly. I now live a holier lifestyle and do my best to follow the commandments given by Jesus and put God first, then my family, next my friends and then myself. I do not serve money as my master anymore but our heavenly Father instead. I put my trust in the Lord with all my heart nowadays, one thing I do know; He has always put his trust in me... Romans 10:9 If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. Prayer: Jesus, I want to make a brand new start with You. Thank You that You made this possible when You died on the cross for me. I turn to You now. I confess that You, Jesus, are Lord, and I believe in my heart that God raised You from the dead. Thank You that I am now saved. Please live within my heart and transform me by your power. Thank You Jesus. Amen. Life on Earth is short compared to eternity in heaven. I believe if more people lived their lives in accordance with the gospel; the world would become a more beautiful place. Jesus is ready and willing to gracefully bless anyone with the mind of Christ, the heart of a lion, humility and the spirit of God. This book is inspired by and written by a divine spirit that magnificently dwells inside of me, it is called the Holy Ghost. I feel Christ’s hand on my brain whenever I write now, so I just let the Lord do his thing. This is my truthful, honest, sincere and miraculous testimony to Jesus our Lord and God.

Book Short Summary:

MacDonald rejected the doctrine of penal Substitutionary atonement as put forward by John Calvin which argues that Christ has taken the place of sinners and is punished by God in their place, believing that in turn it raised serious questions about the character and nature of God. Instead, he taught that Christ had come to save people from their sins, and not from a Divine penalty for their sins. The problem was not the need to appease a wrathful God but the disease of cosmic evil itself.

Book Short Summary:

More than a decade ago, a group of researchers began to study the religious and spiritual lives of American teenagers. They tracked these young people over the course of a decade, revisiting them periodically to check in on the state -and future- of religion in America, and reporting on their findings in a series of books, beginning with Soul Searching (2005). Now, with Back-Pocket God, this mammoth research project comes to its conclusion. What have we learned about the changing shape of religion in America? Back-Pocket God explores continuity and change among young people from their teenage years through the latter stages of "emerging adulthood." Melinda Lundquist Denton and Richard Flory find that the story of young adult religion is one of an overall decline in commitment and affiliation, and in general, a moving away from organized religion. Yet, there is also a parallel trend in which a small, religiously committed group of emerging adults claim faith as an important fixture in their lives. Emerging adults don't seem so much opposed to religion or to religious organizations, at least in the abstract, as they are uninterested in religion, at least as they have experienced it. Religion is like an app on the ubiquitous smartphones in our back pockets: readily accessible, easy to control, and useful-but only for limited purposes. Denton and Flory show that some of the popular assumptions about young people and religion are not as clear as what many people seem to believe. The authors challenge the characterizations of religiously unaffiliated emerging adults -sometimes called "religious nones"- as undercover atheists. At the other end of the spectrum, they question the assumption that those who are not religious will return to religion once they marry and have children.

However, if you can relate to a chick that is a little crazy, kind of funny, has a potty mouth, and tells it like it is entertaining, then step right up and have a peek into her mind. She has no filter but a huge imagination, and weird is a side effect of awesome. Welcome!

Anyone that has had a loved one go home knows the pain and sorrow that can overwhelm them. The loss of a loved one can send you into a deep abyss of pain and sorrow. Do you wonder where your loved one is? What is he or she doing? What is Heaven like? How do you find comfort in the pain? Where is God when it hurts? This book was written as the author found herself asking the same questions when, while still grieving the loss of her dad, her strong, healthy husband had a sudden heart attack. On November 2, 2011, her husband of thirty-eight years was called home to heaven. Trying to hold on to her faith while reeling from shock and grief, she threw herself into studying Gods Word and holding on to her faith while she tried to seek answers and comfort. Being unable to find a devotional that was specifically for grieving Christians lead her to write her first book. You will find comfort and assurance that you will be reunited with your loved one in the scripturally based devotions as you read what God has laid on her heart. Ann gives you a daily devotional that helps you focus on heaven, Gods sovereignty and everlasting love, eternity, and that glorious day we will be reunited with our loved ones, and help you find comfort and an eternal perspective as you wait on that day.

Book Short Summary:

Bless Me until You’re Satisfied offers itself as a guide to the Scriptures’ witness to the abundant blessings God desires to pour out into the lives of all who follow Him in faith. By drawing upon his ministry as a pastor and his work in a counseling center dedicated to transforming the lives of at-risk youths, Joseph Harris lifts up the overwhelming power of God’s blessings in the face of life’s challenges and adversities. Each chapter of Bless Me until You’re Satisfied typically begins with a passage from the Bible, followed by a “bless me” statement, which draws out the theme of the passage and applies it to daily life. The balance of each chapter then delves into the riches of God’s blessings and traces the chapter’s theme as it appears throughout the whole of the Scriptures. Life sometimes weighs us down with worries. Other times we burden ourselves with the bad choices we make. If you feel like you are dragging around a great load, then Bless Me until You’re Satisfied can help you. It reveals God’s answer to your prayers for assistance; it describes the riches of His blessings; it leads you to ask Him to bless you until He is satisfied and you are made whole.

Investigating the hitherto unexplored topic of how young people understand and relate to religious diversity in the social context in which they are growing up, this book makes a significant contribution to the existing body of literature on religious diversity and multiculturalism. It closes a gap in knowledge about young people’s attitudes to religious diversity, and reports data gathered across the whole of the UK as well as comparative chapters on Canada, USA and continental Europe. Reporting findings from both qualitative and quantitative research which reveal, for example, the importance of the particular social and geographical context within which young people are embedded, the volume addresses young people’s attitudes towards the range of 'world religions’ as well as non-religious stances and offers an interdisciplinary approach through the different analytical perspectives of the contributors.

Book Short Summary:

21 Days: The Random Thoughts of a Brother in Mourning is just that, random thoughts about death, faith, and God. 21 Days is the chronological countdown to David's death as described by his brother, Donald. His written thoughts document what was happening to his brother David as he quickly succumbed to esophageal cancer. Donald describes his emotional turmoil in dealing with his brother's untimely and unstoppable death. He asks a powerful, rhetorical question that makes everyone ponder their mortality. What would you do if doctors told you, you or a loved one only have twenty-one days to live? How would you react? Donald reacted by questioning his faith in God and God's power over cancer during this countdown. Donald's brother David was given twenty-one days to live on September 29, 2015. In dealing with the reality of his oldest brother's death, Donald expressed his feelings by writing down what happened each day and how he felt. He describes how he cursed at God, questioned God's divine intervention, and even God's existence because no prayers were answered, no miracle cure and no death reprieve were in sight. Donald refers to the esophageal cancer that David had as an evil demon. He shows his anger and disgust with cancer and how it destroys not only a person but a family. He expresses his torment and anguish as he counts down the days, but in the end, ultimately embraces his spirituality. When the inevitable became more and more real, Donald found his faith and accepted his brother's fate. When Donald found his faith in God, it was a comforting, coping mechanism helping him deal with the inevitable death of his oldest brother. Donald describes other instances of spirituality that he has personally experienced and how he turns these tragic events into faith-renewing experiences.

Book Short Summary:

The book title of part 2 is Identity. The heart, mind, and will of God is that we as the peoples around the globe know who God is, understand the love of God in that He deeply and faithfully loves you without bias, and that God wants you to come to a place of sincere faith where you stop running from God and take responsibility for your sins right now! How do we get our identity in the first place? By faith in God (Heb. 11:1-6 and John 3:1-18). Henceforward, it is by faith, trust, and hope in the LORD Jesus Christ (Eph. 2:8-10) by calling upon His holy name (Ps. 18:1-3), confessing (Rom. 10:9-17) and repenting (Prov. 28:13 and Matt. 4:17 and Mark 1:15) of your sins. True repentance (willfully and decisively forsaking our unholy anti-God thinking, believing, habits, speaking, and behavior) is the fear of the LORD in being sorry for your sins deliberately and turning to God asking for forgiveness while declaring with audible speaking that Jesus Christ is the living Son of God, raised from the grave on the third day. This is salvation, and it is free! Do you know my friend Jesus? Identity found in Christ and explained in Part Two helps us to answer the following critical questions that our teenagers and millions of peoples around the world are asking right now: Who am I? What is my identity? What is my name that no one seems to know or care about? Why was I even born in the first place? Why am I alive today? What's the point to my life, and what is my purpose? Where do I fit in? Where am I? Why should I keep living? Why should I care? Why should I not take all these drugs or slit my wrists/throat right now? Does anyone love me? Does anyone care about me? Does God see me? Does God care about me or love me? Where is God right now? The solution to our global identity crisis is found in the love of God through the cross of Jesus Christ. The power, grace, mercy, and compassion of Christ is the only solution that can even begin to answer the above listed identity questions. The identity scream is horrifying and real! Peoples around the world are screaming in their souls right now: "Just bring me to Jesus!" Only Jesus Christ can fill our souls. Not money, sex, drugs, alcohol, or anything in this world can save our souls from sin or fulfill us with true peace and happiness. Pray before and during the reading of Part Two. Ask God what He wants to do with and through your life (Luke 8:21 and Luke 9:23). Praise the LORD (Ps. 150:1-6).

Book Short Summary:

What Would You Surrender for God? Christians in the Middle East, in much of Asia, and in Africa are still being martyred for the faith, but how many American Christians are willing to lay down their smartphones, let alone their lives, for the faith? Being a Christian in America doesn’t require much these days. Suburban megachurches are more like entertainment venues than places to worship God. The lives that American “Christians” lead aren’t much different from those of their atheist neighbors, and their knowledge of theology isn’t much better either. Matt Walsh of The Daily Wire exposes the pitiful state of Christianity in America today, lays out the stakes for us, our families, and our eternal salvation, and invites us to a faith that’s a lot less easy and comfortable—but that’s more real and actually worth something. The spiritual junk food we’re stuffing ourselves with is never going to satisfy. As St. Augustine said over a millennium ago, our hearts are restless until they rest in Him. Only God Himself can make our lives anything but ultimately meaningless and empty. And we will never get anywhere near Him if we refuse to take up our cross and follow Jesus. This rousing call to the real adventure of a living faith is a wake-up call to complacent Christians and a rallying cry for anyone dissatisfied with a lukewarm faith.

Book Short Summary:

Dr. Phineas Parkhurst Quimby (1802-1866) was a lifelong resident of Belfast, ME and a clockmaker, by trade. From the late 1840s until the time of his transition, he wrote down his own particular philosophical, psychological and metaphysical views on life, death, health, religion and the mind. His early studies of hypnosis, then called mesmerism, led him later on to develop his unique method of healing for both mental and physical affirmities. Proud of his New England heritage, passionate in his love of liberty and equality for all, outspoken in his admonitions against what he considered aristocracy and priestcraft, empathetic toward the sick and suffering, he recorded his experiences, experiments and case studies of his own life journey's explorations into humanity and spirituality, in order to leave behind, for us, what he found, for himself, to be universally applicable truths, for the benefit of all mankind. For this reason, he wrote this book.
